Colonial Homes

Colonial style homes exude a sense of dignity and spaciousness and are particularly suited to the larger block. The timeless design originated in the early 1800’s and has undergone a revival today. Characterised by its symmetrical design with windows on either side of the central front door, original Colonial style homes were single storey with large front verandas that in some case ran around the entire house. Today the style has been modernised and adapted to split level and double storey homes.

Stylish and Comfortable

Colonial homes are constructed out of face brick, usually flecked sandstone. Roofs are corrugated iron and the floors are timber. The typical design has a central hall with bedrooms and living rooms leading off. The central hall provides good ventilation and with large airy rooms this style of home is particularly suited to the Queensland weather and the Australian lifestyle. These stylish and comfortable homes hark back to a more leisurely time.
